Thanks to everyone who's supported Oddsox! For the foreseeable future, Oddsox is not available for shows. This is primarily due to Matt moving to Hobart late last year (2006). He's now very busy doing an awesome job as the kids pastor at The Way Christian Church down there and doesn't have time to do Oddsox as well!

We hope that this isn't the end of Oddsox, as we really enjoy what we do, and there are things we haven't done yet that we'd still like to do one day, like record our songs so you can enjoy them at home or church! We thank God for the many opportunities he's given us to tell people about the love of Jesus.

Remember, if you want to be first to hear about what we're up to, you can still sign up for the Oddsox Mailing List.

Carols in the Park

Oddsox are playing at Carols in the Park in Launceston! It's very exciting to play for so many people! Make sure you don't miss this one, as it may be one of our last shows. Matt has moved to Hobart and is working for the WAY Christian Church as a kids pastor. This makes it difficult for him to make it to Oddsox shows, so we'll be playing much less, if at all during at least this coming year. :( Stay tuned for more details.

So don't miss Carols in the Park! We're playing from about 7.40pm, and will be getting everyone up and moving to the Banana Song, Old MacDonald, and a very Oddsoxy version of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer!

Also, watch out for us in the Examiner sometime during this week. :)

Things have been a bit quiet around here recently, but now we have a number of shows coming up soon, so make sure you don't miss out on the Oddsox action! We have a few recent additions to the Oddsox website to announce, so here they are:

The FAQ page has been largely re-written to match the new brochure that can be found on the Downloads page.
A new desktop wallpaper image is also available on the Downloads page.
An Oddsox Show Details Form is now available on the Contact Us page. Use this form to let us know when you want Oddsox to come and play for you!

Oddsox played at Sheffield Bible Chapel's 5pm service. It was our first show in a few months! We introduced our newest song "God is Big", though had some difficulty with the key change. ;) Overall it went well, and we look forward to playing again soon. :)

Oddsox will be gracing the balmy east coast with its cheery stylings and fast-paced dance moves this Thursday, 19th of January. CMS Summerview is the Tasmanian CMS Summer Conference, held in Bicheno. The conference itself is for adults, but there are great youth and children's programs running as part of it. Oddsox will be playing for the children and youth at 11am, and again at 2pm for some of the adults to take a look too. Come and meet the gang and join in on the fun!

UPDATE: 20-Jan.
This gig was great fun. It was a nice trip down to Bicheno for the oddsox team (except for Matt, Andrew and Thomas who were already there!) and were rewarded handsomly with an enthusiastic turnout. It was a hot summer's day as predicted but the kids managed to hold out for a little over an hour (longer than most shows) with their enthusiasm and legs intact. :)

The adults enjoyed the event too: the Anglican Bishop of Tasmania, John Harrower even joined in up the front with the actions for J-E-S-U-S. See the photos. :)

Gig: Port Sorell

Oddsox are heading down to Port Sorell to play at the Scripture Union Family Mission (SUFM) running during the first week of January. We're playing during the evening session on friday which starts at 6pm and includes food!

UPDATE: 15-Jan
It was good to go and play again after a few weeks' break. We got to play first outside with our speakers pointed towards the caravan park, to make sure everyone could hear. ;) We drew a fair crowd of kids who came to join in with the dancing and singing. The food provided was tasty and plentiful - savaloys, meat pies and later, donuts! After dinner all the gear had to be moved into the hall and we played some more for the SUFM evening activity. We were also able to join in with some bushdancing, which was loads of fun! All in all, a great gig - see you again next year, Port Sorell! :D

Ok, so this update's a bit late! Sorry about that. As it turned out, Ben was able to join Matt and Thomas in Deloraine, and Humphrey, our all-purpose helping hand came along for the ride too! This gig came in two parts. First we played in the hall while the kids jumped on a bouncy castle and did other activities. It's always tough to play while kids are doing something else, but we were able to involve a few kids in the songs, and we had fun too. :) Later we played a few songs in the actual carols event, which went down really well, despite the lack of oddsox members! The kids especially loved the Banana song. Thanks for having us, Deloraine! :D

Scottsdale Carols by Candlelight was an enjoyable community event that it was a privilege to be a part of. We played three of our regular Oddsox songs (Shake, It's Enough and Banana) as well as providing the music for the community carols. It was one of the largest crowds we've played for, and even though we were missing Isaac's guitar and Ben's drums, the rest of the gang pulled off an exceptional performance.

Special thanks to Jared Forrest of Entertainment Solutions for invaluable help not only with overcoming some technical issues at this gig, but for generously providing PA gear over the whole tour. Jared, You Rock!

We had great fun down at Holy Trinity. We travelled down the night before and set up the next morning. We played It's Enough and The Sheep Song in the main church service before heading next door to the parish centre for about an hour of Oddsox fun! The 15 or so kids were full of energy and very excited to dance and sing about Jesus. Despite missing Isaac on guitar, it was a great gig! Praise God!

I've changed the background colour of the circle - I really like the radial gradient. I've made the text taller such that the O's are now circular (which matches the actual logo). Personally not convinced about the multi-coloured text - I think it makes it too busy... What do you think?

Version 3:
Ok, back to one colour for the text. Keep those suggestions coming. :)

Version 4:
This is an adaptation of Version 2 (which looks like the one we're going with - hence the new website banner!), which could be used sometimes when we just want the circular logo. eg. This could go on the kick drum!! :D

Band traversed the state for the maiden event planned on the Amazing Oddsox Tour Extraveganza. We had an awesome time, music was 'tight', kids were really getting into it and there were a few - probably 100 kids (at the most). It was really good to get our feet in the door of a State School and be able to preach Jesus Christ in an understandable and not confrontational way. [more soon, out]

Gig: St John's Breaky-Fest

St John's Anglican Church, Launceston has replaced their fair this year with a special event called Breaky-Fest. On the morning of Sat 26th November, come along and feast on egg+bacon muffins, pancakes, sausages, cakes, FREE home-made lemon cordial and all sorts of other treats. As you might guess, what with this being the Oddsox Website, Breaky-Fest is featuring Oddsox! We'll be playing from 8:30-10:30. So come early to fully experience Breaky-Fest, then you can continue on to the Launceston Christmas Parade!

Favourite Oddsox Song: Wow, do I have a favourite?? There are so many good ones!!! I love Dance cause it's really funky and the band goes off!! :) I also love our new song that says, "You've gotta Run to Jesus when the pressure's on, He's the one who keeps you strong." I sing it when I get stressed out and worried and it makes me feel better!!

Background: I've just completed my Bachelor of Computing degree at the University of Tasmania, and am continuing on to do Honours in 2006. We've finally got around to updating the site. There's now a list of upcoming gigs to in the side bar to the right. At the time of writing, this has a list of gigs coming up for the tour!

The colour scheme has been worked on considerably to make it more colourful. :D (It was ALL blue before, which was a little boring.) Any comments re the new colour scheme are most welcome. :)

Kudos to Humphrey for the suggestions of the base yellow and orange colours. :)

Gig: Mayfield Family Fun Day 05

The Mayfield Family Fun Day was a great event! We played for 45mins, and got kids dancing around heaps - it also involved a lot of screaming! ;) Although we were originally scheduled for 11am, we got moved to 12:15. This turned out to be for the best, as it was sunnier and there were more people around, especially Kids!! :) ...which is what it's all about, after all.

Today we went on a road trip down to Hobart and played at the Energizer Conference 2005 kids program, otherwise known as Jump! We played from 12:15 until about 12:50, and were well received by the kids there. :) They had been there two or three days already, and were somewhat preoccupied with eating lunch, but they got into the music nonetheless.

Although it was a fairly long drive for a relatively short gig, there were a lot of kids there (maybe around 100?) and also lots of children's workers from around Tasmania, so it was good to make some contacts, especially what with plans afoot for our upcoming Tour! ...more on that later!

Here's what you need to know about Oddsox:

What exactly is Oddsox and who do you play for?
Oddsox is a Christian band for children based in Launceston, Tasmania. Our songs and shows are aimed at primary school aged children and are highly interactive and fun! The majority of the songs we perform are Oddsox originals.

Through performance, we aim to teach children about Jesus, encouraging them to call Him their friend and get to know Him better each day.

Where do you play?
Churches, schools, conferences - you name it. Anywhere you might find children and families is a potential venue for an Oddsox show. We have previously traveled throughout Tasmania and any location is a possibility. We are able to perform indoors or outdoors (provided we have a level surface and electricity) and if required, can bring all the equipment we need.

How much will it cost?
Oddsox's rates vary considerably from event to event. Our general fee is $150 per hour. Additional travel costs may apply depending on location. All proceeds go back into the band, towards equipment, hire costs etc. If you are unsure about how much you can afford, contact us and we will discuss possibilities. We don’t like to let lack of funds prevent us from playing for you!
